LAND OF PASTURES
Astore
District, located in Gilgit-Baltistan, is a region with a rich historical
background and significant geographical importance. Often referred to as the
“Land of Pastures,” it is known for its vast green meadows and fertile valleys
that have supported local communities for centuries. Historically, Astore
remained under the influence of various local kingdoms, including Baltistan and
Kashmir. Due to its proximity to routes linked with the ancient Silk Road, it
served as an important center for trade and cultural exchange between Central
Asia, China, and the Indian subcontinent.
During
the British colonial period, Astore gained administrative importance and became
part of the Gilgit Agency. After 1947, it came under the administration of
Pakistan and is now a key district of Gilgit-Baltistan. Known for its
breathtaking valleys, snow-capped mountains, and rich cultural heritage, Astore
continues to attract tourists and researchers, offering a unique blend of
historical significance and natural beauty.
