Blind Lake (Zharba Zhou) – A Hidden Oasis in Shigar Valley

Blind Lake, locally known as Jarba Zhou, is one of the most serene and lesser-explored attractions in Shigar Valley. Surrounded by dramatic mountains, cold desert landscapes, and flowing rivers, the lake offers a rare combination of tranquility and adventure—making it a must-visit destination for travelers exploring Baltistan.

Location & Geography

Blind Lake is located in Shigar District, between Skardu and Shigar Valley. It lies approximately: 25–45 km from Skardu, Around 20 km before Shigar Valley. The lake is uniquely positioned between two major rivers: Indus River & Shigar River. Unlike most lakes, Blind Lake has no visible inlet or outlet, which is why it is called “Blind Lake.” It is believed to be fed by underground seepage from nearby rivers. The lake sits at an elevation of approximately 2,200–2,300 meters, surrounded by mountains and near the famous Sarfaranga Desert, creating a striking contrast of landscapes.
