Islamabad: Important developments have been made regarding preparations for the upcoming Tour de Khunjerab Cycling Event 2026, one of Pakistan’s most prestigious high-altitude sporting events.
Secretary Tourism, Sports and Culture Gilgit-Baltistan, Mr. Faisal Ahsan Pirzada, held a coordination meeting in Islamabad with Mr. Haroon, General Secretary of the Pakistan Cycling Federation, to review organizational arrangements for the international cycling competition.
During the meeting, it was decided that the Pakistan Cycling Federation will complete a technical assessment and submit a comprehensive proposal regarding event arrangements to the Department of Tourism, Sports and Culture within one week.
It is worth mentioning that the Tour de Khunjerab cycling race was last held in 2019. Due to administrative reasons, the event could not be organized in subsequent years. However, the Tourism, Sports and Culture Department Gilgit-Baltistan has now re-included the event in its annual calendar and is committed to ensuring its successful revival this year.
The internationally recognized competition will be jointly organized by the Department of Tourism, Sports and Culture Gilgit-Baltistan and the Pakistan Cycling Federation, with participation expected from both national and international cyclists.
Tour de Khunjerab is considered among the world’s highest and most challenging cycling competitions, serving not only as a platform for promoting sports but also as a significant initiative for strengthening tourism in Gilgit-Baltistan.
